Lactation Visits

  • 1. Clinical Expertise + Holistic Heart

I combine the diagnostic skills of an RN/IBCLC with an understanding of your family’s emotional and physical rhythm. I don’t just look at a latch, I support the full circle of your postpartum recovery, sleep, and well-being.

    2. I am in your back pocket

Traditional care often leaves you hanging between appointments. My model is built on continuous, HIPAA-secure messaging support. Whether it’s a 3:00 AM "is this normal?" or a mid-week adjustment, I am available to ensure your care plan actually works in your real life.

    3. A Social Equity Model

I believe expert care should be accessible. Through my Community Fund and the ‘Green Bottle Method’, your Dark Blue Cup (full-fee) payment directly helps me provide scholarships and sliding-scale support for families facing systemic barriers or financial hardship.

    4. I integrate Sleep & Feeding

Feeding and sleep are two sides of the same coin. I prioritize biologically normal infant sleep, helping you find a sustainable rhythm that honors both your baby’s development and your own need for rest.

  • While many families reach out when a challenge arises, the ideal time to establish support is prenatally. A prenatal consultation allows me to assess your history, discuss physiological expectations, and create a proactive plan.

For postpartum concerns, I recommend booking as soon as you experience pain, supply worries, or feeding frustration. Early intervention is key to a sustainable journey.

  • Our visits are comprehensive clinical assessments. We begin with a deep dive into your birth story and health history, followed by a functional oral assessment of your baby. I observe a full feeding to evaluate latch mechanics, milk transfer, and infant behavior. You will leave with a personalized, evidence-based care plan that addresses both your immediate concerns and long-term feeding goals.

  • Yes, but as an IBCLC/RN I’m not qualified to make a diagnosis or perform a release procedure. However, as an IBCLC with specialized training in infant oral function, my role is important in providing a thorough functional assessment of the tongue, lip, and buccal tissues. I look at more than just appearance, I evaluate how the mouth moves and how it impacts feeding efficiency. If a tie is suspected, I provide referrals to trusted providers for diagnosis and offer comprehensive pre- and post-procedure support.

  • Absolutely. Bottle feeding is a skill, just like nursing. Together, we troubleshoot the mechanics of the bottle, the flow of the nipple, and the baby’s oral reflexes. Whether you are returning to work or simply want the flexibility of a bottle, I provide gentle, stress-free strategies to help your baby transition with confidence.

  • Not at all. The goal is infant feeding success, however that looks for your family. I provide expert support for bottle-feeding, formula preparation, induced lactation for adoption or surrogacy, and relactation. If you are feeding a baby, you belong here.

  • This is the core of my Full Circle philosophy. Feeding and sleep are inextricably linked. Issues like poor milk transfer, undiagnosed oral ties (leading to gas and reflux), or discomfort in the body can significantly affect sleep and your feeding experience.

  • You don't need to prepare your home or have it cleaned, I am there to support you in your natural environment. Simply have your baby ready to feed (ideally 1–2 hours since their last full meal), any pumping or bottle equipment you currently use, and a comfortable place for us to sit.

I bring all necessary clinical tools, including a professional-grade infant scale for weighted feeds.

  • Yes. Part of our work can definitely involve pumping optimization. I ensure your flanges are correctly fitted (most standard sizes are actually too large), check your pump's settings for maximum efficiency, and create a sustainable pumping schedule that fits your lifestyle and protects your supply.

  • Yes! Exclusive pumping is a unique feeding journey that requires its own specialized set of tools and strategies. I view pumping as a primary feeding relationship and provide the clinical support needed to make it sustainable and successful.

  • Yes. Weaning is a significant milestone that deserves as much care and intentionality as the start of your feeding journey. Whether you are planning a gentle, child-led transition or need a structured plan for medical, professional, or personal reasons, I provide the clinical guidance to help you navigate this change with confidence.

  • There’s nothing quite like an In-Person lactation visit, but this isn’t always feasible if you live outside of my travel radius. We can do almost everything virtually! The main exceptions are:

    Choose In-Person If...

    • You are worried about slow weight gain or need an accurate weighted feed (pre- and post-feed scale measurement) to see exactly how much milk your baby is getting.

    • You want a fully customized flange fitting session.

    • You prefer hands on support or in-person conversation.

    • You want in-home guidance without the worry of getting your tech setup just right.

    Virtual Options

Please reach out if you’re unsure which to choose.

  • For Virtual Lactation Support as both an IBCLC and an RN holding a multistate license, due to state licensing regulations I am currently available to clients in 43 states (listed below). Your baby must be established with a local primary provider before we can work together from afar.

Please note, my Holistic Sleep Support consulting packages are available to families worldwide, as these sessions focus on developmental education and rhythmic wellness rather than clinical medical intervention.

Sleep Visits

  • Traditional "Sleep Training" typically relies on behavioral modification using methods like "Cry-It-Out" or "Controlled Crying" where a child’s cues may go unresponded to for set periods to achieve a specific result.

In contrast, Holistic Sleep Support is a clinical, evidence-based approach rooted in child development and attachment science. Rather than "training" a behavior, we optimize the biological and environmental conditions that allow sleep to happen naturally.

  • Because every family is a unique ecosystem, no two consultations are the same. I take a "Full Circle" view of your child’s life, analyzing:

    • Current sleep rhythm and environment

    • Feeding and nutritional rhythms

    • Daily schedules and activity levels

    • Overall family well-being and temperament

  • It is important to note that holistic methods are not an overnight fix. Because we prioritize gentle, responsive transitions that honor your child’s development, meaningful change typically unfolds over several weeks. To ensure you feel supported through this gradual process, most of my packages include six weeks (or more) of unlimited messaging support and follow up calls. While the big shifts take time, we will always identify "immediate wins" during our first session to provide your family with instant relief.

  • The science of infant neurobiology shows that "self-soothing" is a developmental milestone, not a skill that can be taught through "training" at a young age. Developmentally, infants require co-regulation in the presence of a calm, responsive caregiver to navigate their emotions and sleep cycles. My methods focus on this vital connection rather than promising a "set number of nights" to reach a specific goal.

  • It’s the question every tired parent asks, and the answer is often more complex than a simple date on a calendar. Most babies continue to need a caregiver’s presence at least once a night well into their second year. This isn't because you are "doing it wrong", it’s because infants rely on us for co-regulation and comfort long after the sun goes down.

Acknowledging that parenting is a 24/7 job doesn't make the exhaustion any less real. Being "on call" around the clock is one of the hardest roles a human can take on. If you feel like you’re reaching your limit, you don’t need a magic fix, you need a sustainable plan and a village of support.

  • The Role of Consistency in Behavioral Shifts

Consistency is the cornerstone of any sustainable change in sleep rhythm. Because holistic methods work with your child’s natural biology rather than against it, progress often feels gradual. It is common to experience a plateau where it feels easier to revert to old patterns.

Before we begin, I invite you to reflect on your readiness for change. It is helpful to know that transitions can sometimes feel more demanding before they become effortless. However, the reward is a foundational shift in how your family rests.

    Personalized and Fluid Design

The "right" plan is only effective if it is sustainable for your specific life. We co-create your care plan during our consultation; if a strategy doesn't align with your values or your physical capacity, we simply don't include it. Our care plan is designed to meet you exactly where you are:

    • Support for families needing flexible nap locations (on-the-go or babywearing).

    • Strategies tailored for caregivers with differing physical abilities or varied schedules.

    • Integrated plans for homes with multiple children requiring support.

    Aligning Expectations with Biology

A significant part of our work together is calibrating your expectations. By distinguishing between "biologically normal" sleep and "disrupted" sleep, we find a balance that honors your child’s development while protecting your own mental and physical well-being.

    A Partnership, Not a Protocol

You are never navigating this process in isolation. If a particular element of the plan isn't resonating or producing the rhythm we anticipated, we pivot. Through our unlimited messaging support, we troubleshoot in real-time to ensure the plan remains a source of relief, not a source of stress.

  • My role is to provide you with the clinical evidence and the tools to make the best choice for your home. I will never tell a family there is only "one way" to parent. If, after reviewing the science, you feel a traditional training method is the right path for your family, I fully respect your intuition. You know your family best; my goal is simply to ensure you have the highest level of support for whichever path you choose.

  • It is essential that you feel a genuine sense of partnership with your sleep consultant. If you’re questioning whether holistic support is the right fit, or if you're struggling to choose between my in-home and virtual options, a Discovery Call is the perfect first step.

During our time together, you’ll have the space to voice your concerns and get a feel for my supportive, attachment-led style. We’ll look at your family’s unique rhythm and identify the most sustainable path forward—with zero pressure to commit until you’re ready.

Payment

  • Yes. As an IBCLC, I offer in-network lactation visits through partnerships with several major insurance providers. For many families, this means comprehensive feeding support is available with minimal out-of-pocket cost. During our initial intake, I can verify your coverage to ensure you are maximizing your benefits while receiving the highest level of professional care. This includes the following plans.

Aetna (including Meritain & Moda with the Aetna symbol on the card)

    • Essential Lactation is in-network with Aetna. I am able to submit your fees for Aetna’s consideration. Aetna’s usual and customary allotment for each procedure will satisfy your account; ultimately, each client remains responsible for full payment for services. You are responsible for providing me with accurate insurance information and informing me of any changes in your insurance status; if you do not have coverage at the time of service, you will be responsible to pay me at my self-pay rate.

    United Healthcare

    • Essential Lactation is in-network with United. I am able to submit your fees for United‘s consideration. United’s usual and customary allotment for each procedure will satisfy your account; ultimately, each client remains responsible for full payment for services. You are responsible for providing me with accurate insurance information and informing me of any changes in your insurance status; if you do not have coverage at the time of service, you will be responsible to pay me at my self-pay rate.

    Tricare

    • Essential Lactation is in-network with Tricare. I am able to submit your fees for Tricare’s consideration. Tricare currently allows 1 hour per lactation visit with a total of 6 visits allowed per birth or adoption. Prenatal visits can occur after 27 weeks gestation. You don’t need a referral for lactation care whether you have Prime or Select. If Tricare is your secondary insurance, you will need to request a letter from your primary insurance stating they don’t cover lactation visits. You are responsible for providing me with accurate insurance information and informing me of any changes in your insurance status; if you do not have coverage at the time of service, you will be responsible to pay me at my self-pay rate.

To provide a "Full Circle" experience that extends beyond a standard visit, a service premium is applied to each in-network package. This covers the essential elements of all-inclusive care:

    • Continuous Care Management: Unlimited messaging for the duration of your package.

    • Oral Function Monitoring: Professional review of your baby's oral exercise plan between visits.

    • On-Site Logistics: All travel to your home and clinical supplies used during your consultation.

    • Clinical Research Support: Specialized 1-on-1 support for medication safety and complex lactation concerns.

    • Dynamic Education: High-quality resources and tools tailored to your family's progress.

    • Biological Sleep Foundation: A "Sleep Environment Assessment" as part of your home visit—briefly checking the sleep setup for safety and optimal sleep hygiene.

*For Self Pay clients, these enhanced benefits are automatically integrated into your total service fee.

  • For families with plans currently out-of-network—including Medicaid (Molina, CHPW), Kaiser, Premera, Regence, BCBS/Anthem, and Lifewise—we operate on a direct-pay basis.

Payment is due at the time of your visit via cash, check, credit card, or HSA/FSA. Following our session, I will provide you with a clinically coded Superbill (which also serves as your receipt). This document is optimized for you to submit to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement. To make this process as simple as possible, I have created THIS HANDOUT to walk you through the reimbursement steps. I am always happy to discuss these logistics to ensure you feel supported every step of the way.

Prices vary by package type and are listed HERE.

  • I prioritize both your convenience and your privacy. Electronic payments are processed through Square, a secure platform meeting all HIPAA and financial industry safety standards. However, because automated digital receipts may list the 'Type of Visit,' please let me know if you would prefer to pay via cash or check for added privacy. Financial flexibility is important to me; if you are interested in a custom payment plan, please reach out so we can discuss a path that works for your family.

  • Absolutely. Supporting multiples requires a specialized level of clinical coordination to ensure each infant’s unique biological and developmental needs are met. For our self-pay and out-of-network families, there is a $75 coordination fee per additional infant/visit. This reflects the extra time and complexity involved in mapping out synchronized rhythms and feeding plans for your family.

Insurance Note: For in-network visits, I will bill your insurance provider for each infant individually, typically resulting in no additional out-of-pocket charge at the time of our visit.

  • 1. Payment Methods & Privacy

Flexible Investment Options For your convenience, Essential Sleep accepts a variety of payment methods including cash or check (for in-person visits), as well as HSA/FSA cards and all major credit cards. Digital transactions are processed via Square’s secure, HIPAA-compliant server, ensuring the highest standards of financial privacy. Please note that automated digital receipts may include the date and type of service; if you prefer maximum privacy, payment by cash or check is always an option.

    2. Insurance & HSA/FSA Guidance

Navigating Coverage & Reimbursement While insurance providers typically do not allow for direct billing of sleep consulting services, many families successfully utilize their HSA or FSA funds to cover the cost of care.

    • For HSA Users: You may use your HSA card directly at the time of service. Please retain your itemized receipt for your records should your provider request proof of services rendered.

    • For FSA Users: Most plans require you to pay upfront via cash, check, or card and submit a receipt for reimbursement.

    • The 'Letter of Medical Necessity': To ensure seamless coverage, I recommend reaching out to your plan administrator to confirm their specific requirements. Many providers simply require a 'Letter of Medical Necessity' from your child’s primary physician to approve sleep consulting as a qualifying expense.

  • Under the Affordable Care Act, most health insurance plans are federally required to provide coverage for lactation support and equipment without cost-sharing. However, coverage specifics can vary significantly between individual plans. We encourage all families to verify their specific 'preventive service' benefits.

For a comprehensive guide on your rights and how to navigate reimbursement challenges, I recommend the National Women’s Law Center Tool Kit.

  • I feel very strongly that everyone should have access to in home lactation support regardless of income. I offer equity sliding scale for clients who are experiencing barriers to support. Currently I hold space open for one full scholarship and two support rate home visit clients per month and I hope to continue working for more home visit access for more families.

To help you think about where your family may be on the scale, please read through this helpful article describing the Green Bottle Method by Alexis J Cunningfolk.

    How it works:

    1. Pay what you can

    2. Be honest

    3. Pay it forward if you have financial stability and/or abundance

    4. Receive the support available if you have need

Heron at Onward Love Care Collective has also written a lovely explanation of how this concept works in the perinatal world and it helped shape my own support framework.

Seek Support and find out more about the Full Circle Community Fund.

  • To ensure that all families have access to timely clinical support, I kindly ask for a minimum of 24 hours' notice for any appointment changes or cancellations.

    • Notice Provided (24+ hours): No fees will be incurred.

    • Late Notice (<24 hours): A $100 professional commitment fee will be applied.

I understand that life with an infant can be unpredictable; exceptions may be made for sudden illness or urgent extenuating circumstances.

Please reach out as soon as possible if you need to adjust your visit.
